Michael S. Ellis

Michael S. Ellis is the founder and owner of The Ellis Law Group. Mr. Ellis has been litigating and resolving complex disputes for over twenty years, practicing in both Northern and Southern California. Mr. Ellis began his legal career operating as Coverage Counsel for professional liability policies issued to Architects and Engineers. Through this experience, Mr. Ellis segued his practice into litigating complex construction cases on behalf of commercial and residential contractors. Litigating these complex matters has allowed Mr. Ellis to grow his practice which today includes the representation of contractors, developers, commercial lessors and property owners, including hotel properties, restaurants and homeowners.

Mr. Ellis graduated from Santa Clara University’s School of Law in 1998. As a law student, Mr. Ellis performed as the Director of the school’s Honors Moot Court Competition and served as an Editor of Law Review. Mr. Ellis published a Law Review Article titled “The Politics Behind Federal Rules of Evidence 413, 414 and 415” which analyzed the legislature’s decision to implement broad evidentiary standards allowing propensity evidence to be admissible in factually similar cases. The article has since been cited in over six federal cases and discussed as an editorial reference in recent national publications of The Federal Rules of Evidence.

Mr. Ellis attended University of the Pacific for undergraduate study and graduated #1 in his class in 1995. While at UOP, Mr. Ellis worked as a Resident Assistant and Student Adviser, and was a founding member of the Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity.
